Leaking roof and trunk. Anyone find a fix??
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone else has an issue with a leakyroof and trunk. The roof leaks on the driver's side directly above the rear seat. I believe it has to be coming from the rain channel on that side of the car. I just want to see if anyone has any suggestions before I start taking it apart.
Also, the trunk leaks on the right side directly above the right little trunk liner. I looked around but I could not find a definitive answer.
I checked the black rubber liner. There are no visible signs of any imperfections.
Any other ideas??

I've also noticed a leak into my trunk, but can't find any signs of trouble...gonna lock myself in my trunk and have my dad spray the hose on it and find it soon....and I'll post up some info if he lets me out
underneath the carpet where the spare tire is leaks for me. i donno if thats what you mean but trunk or the actual lid but it rarly happens, its gotta be comming from under the car tho
I had a trunk leaking problem. What I found it to be was the seal in the corners. Hard to describe but the closest parts to the rear window. In those corners when the trunk was shut the seal would sort of lift or roll forward slightly causeing a small leak that water could get through.
The fix: I took a small amount of silicon and put it under the black seal. Left the trunk open for the entire drying time. Been leak free for about a year now.
damonk: You might want to check to ensure that the leak is only in with the spare tire. If it is you may want to check because I am almost posative that there is a plug in there that might have come loose allowing water to come in while you are driving.
ph8ed4life: wouldn't it be easier to open the trunk and pour water on the outside of the seal? This way you don't have to lock yourself in the trunk (cop driving by might be like
) Also it would let you see a lot more easily where exactly the leak is since the trunk doesn't alow too much moving room.

I also head a leak in my trunk in my 5th gen. I removed the entire tail light assembly to get the water out of it and hair dry it, and after i reinstalled it, problem was solved. My guess is the liner wasnt sitting properly, and allowed just a tiny bit of water to get it, and so i had a lake in my trunk when it was pouring outside.
Even though the seal's may look fine, there could still be a tiny rip or imperfection you cant see.

Mine is definitely leaking from somewhere on the right side. I left a battery box there and when I went back after it rained, it had water in it.
I will check the seal.

I will check the seal.

it would, but I wasn't sure if it was an issue with the trunk not completely sealing against the seal, or if the bottom seal of the rear window was leaking...good point on the cops too, seeing as how they love to harass me and my friends with 'those damn fast and furious cars'...we live in a small town, so thats the only comparison a lot of people can make!

Old thread, but didn't see you post your conclusion. Had the exact same trunk leak issue (i.e., right side) w/ my '95 Prelude.
Ended up buying & liberally applying some silicon (after carefully cleaning the "water channel area" [how's that for a technical description]).
This was back in Nov '03; no leaks despite a rainy NorCal winter & several drive-through car washes.
Good luck!

Yeah, the taillight gaskets are the most common culprit for water in the trunk.

I actually did the same exact thing. I haven't been able to check it out since.
I'll post back when I put it through some tests.
