Default Need help removing rusted brake dust.

I went to the track a while back and did not get around to washing my wheels after. I had a lot of brake dust on the wheels and it rained. the car sat in the rain and the brake dust has rusted itself to the wheel. Anybody know of a good way to remove it. I've tried scrubbing and pressure washing. I really dont want to take steelwool to my wheels but will if it comes down to it.

First try Simple Green wheel foam. It removes 75% of normal brake dust & rust. If it ain't coming out, you've gotta go with something corrosive.

You'll probably have to try an acid based wheel cleaner. They're rough on the finish, but that's your only hope IMO. Also keep in mind that brake dust deposits are corrosive and if left on your wheels will cause permanent cosmetic damage. I'm kinda thinkin' that's where you're at.

The motto, clean early and often will help you avoid this situation.
