Which springs to use with Skunk2 Stage2 Camshafts
Hi
Wondering if ITR springs and retainers are stiff enough on the s2s2 camshafts. I won't be revving to some phenominal number either. Just curious to know if this is a bad idea, or if it's ok.
The setup is:
94 B18c1 131k miles
VAFC
stock bottom end.
Head will have itr dual springs and retainers.
Thats it.
Will the springs bind?
Valve float at 8400?

Its not a bad idea, but honestly not the greatest either. If you are going to run itr internals for your head, you should run with s2s1 cams because they are almost a carbon copy of itr cams. I have a friend that runs s2s2 cams in his gsr, and he is running s2s2 springs anbd retainers with it because they are obviously built for the cams. It might end up not being strong enough and i havent met anyone daring enough to run that setup. If you decide to run it with itr internals keep us updated on how well its running bcause i am curious as well. good luck!
You'll need more than ITR springs if you want to handle the lift on the S2-2's. I suppose it'd be okay to run them, but you can probably count on floating a valve or two even at the stock ITR redline. Take it from someone that's bent their valves, you want to play it safe. So far some of the best valued springs I've seen are the Portflows, might wanna look into those.
OK thanks for the info guys!
I do live by the motto: better safe than sorry.
I just bought these springs and now I'm kinda pissed. (yeah I know itr springs and I'm pissed)
Anyone interested in them?
I bet there has to be some itr owner that upgraded their cams to s2s2's and left the springs alone. anyone?

any lift at or over 11.8mm will require an aftermarket spring and retainer set. itr springs start to bind right at 11.6-.8mm of lift so running a cam that has too much lift with the itr valve springs and retainers is asking fo rthem to bind up
and considering the skunk2 stage 2 cams specs:
INTAKE lift- 12.3 mm, duration 266 @ 1mm
EXHAUST lift - 11.8 mm, duration 262 @ 1mm
compared to the itr specs:
INTAKE lift - 11.5 mm, duration 243 @1mm
EXHAUST lift - 10.5mm, duration 235 @1mm
you could use stock retainers but you won't be able to rev your car up to 9000 rpm's all day.
