Default Oil aditives

How many of you use oil aditives such as ENGINE FLUSH'N WONDER and similar to that?

Do you use engine cleaner aditives or you think it is a nonsense and wasting money?

How do you clean your engine from a burnt oil and sludge?

What is the most recommended and the safest way to "flush" the engine?

I personally use only 1 type of oil for all my 80.000 miles and I use semi-synthetic 10w40... I doubt the engine needs cleaning... when I change oil at 3000-4000 miles, the old oil is clean and bronze like it was new...

Now I see that many people use all kinds of engine flushes, cleaners, wonders...

How bad is that for a car?

Opinions?

I notice that a lot of those oil additives that clean your engine, require you to start with a COLD engine....now, why would that be???

If your not suppose to pour it straight into the crankcase when the engine is hot, and cold oil is 'thicker' than hot oil, we can ASSume that what your pouring in will thin out the oil.

I also notice that these products smell very similar to gas.

HOWEVER, what I have seen personally, on a very high mileage (and probably severly neglected) 89 Beretta, were chunks of **** coming out the oil drain hole when one of these products were used - I think it was Restore - silver can.

I just choose to change my oil every 2k and having recently pulled my oil pan and valve cover, I can say with certainty that a product like this isnt needed. Current mileage is 204k.

to proper maintenance.

your correct.
thin oils will clean out carbon deposits.
some people that want to clean their motors out put very very thin oil and then change it after 100 miles, a couple of times and each time the oil comes out dark black until it starts to come out semi clean after a few times.

auto-rx will work!

its a ester based cleaner. esters are good detergents. or you can use redline oil to clean your motor.
