whats a normal size speaker wire?

Default whats a normal size speaker wire?

today i went out and bought 16gauge speaker wire for my amp installation this weekend. amping up my speakers finally!..what size should i have gotten and what size would you reccommend for the power wire? i was thinking it would be 8 guage. but im not sure.

i use 12 gauge, which is quite enough for me.. 12-14 should be fine, 16 is small for me but it should work either way..

16 is fine for speaker wire - you could even do 18 - i'd consider 12 or 14 on the higher side - I'd say 16 is just fine.

for power wire it depends on the size of the amplifier.

ITS A 350X4 KICKER...maybe 8 guage power wire?

16 is fine for speaker wire, i'm using 12 for my sub. 8ga should do for the amp power wire.

Everyone has their opinions on what size wire you should use. If you want to know what size power wire you need to run, you need to first look at the fuse rating of your amp, and then measure the lenght of wire needed to go from your battery to your amp. With those 2 measurements, go to http://www.streetwires.com and go to their wire gauge calculator. it will tell you what size wire you need to run. As for speaker wire, The bigger the better. Stock oem wire it usually 18-20 ga. I like to run 16 to my speakers. For subs, depending on how many watts it will be sending to the speaker, I use 12ga minimum to 6ga.
