Default adjustin cam gears

hey,i need help. can someone explain the general concept of advancing and negatizing the cam gears. like what it does to adjust it to positive one or adjust it to negative one, can someone just give me a explanation please. TIA

lol negatizing == retarding. cool word though!

Anyhow, advancing the cam gears on an engine would make the valves open slightly before they normally would and close earlier as well...

So like, u have a DOHC engine, you can advance/retard the intake valves independant from the exhaust ones.

This process is used for tuning and most guys just play around with them on a dyno to make the most power from each individual engine... Just don't go too far. like +/-2 degrees is quite a bit... especially on an NA motor because u can get valve-to piston and valve-to-valve lovins and that ain't cool cuz valves have STDs.
