1996 Accord - A/C O-Ring specs?
Hi
Background:
I have a 96 Accord LX 4dr that is leaking A/C. Took it to the dealer couple of times and they decided that the Evaporator and Expansion valve needs replacing. They quoted $770+ for the job. In my opinion, it is too much to spend on this car for a couple of months of summer in the Pacific Northwest. I got a copy of the service manual and it looks like not too difficult task to do it myself. Also I can get the parts for less than half the price the dealer is charging.
Problem:
The service manual says to replace all O-rings when the Evaporator is replaced. Also it says to make sure the o-rings are R 134a specific. However, I could not find any information about the size of the rings or even part numbers. Can anyone help? Multiple searches of this site came up empty but I can see that the people here are pretty knowledgeable.
Thanks

Hey, from what I know, you need a liscense to do any work with the A/C. You have to use some pretty toxic chemicals with the cooling system, and I also have a feeling it's under pretty high pressure. So, unless you have some proper A/C training or tools, it's more difficult than you think.... But check around, a basic A/C service centre might be able to do it for cheaper.
If you know where the leak is them replace the orings around that area. Don't worry about replacing all the orings. If they are not leaking, let them be. I only replace o rings when I have taken the line apart where orings are, or if there is a definate leak where orings are. It isn't hard, just time consuming.
