Default Blown Motor B18c5 ITR

This is terrible news my buddy just swapped an ITR B18c5 motor into his EG Hatch. He has spent close to $32,000 on this car and he just spent $10,000 on the swap and aftermarket parts. We were out the other night cruising and the unthinkable happened,he was in first gear at about 7000rpm and he hammered down on the gas shifted through first to second, third and then into fourth and it started bogging. He immediatly pulled over and we poped the hood to see if we could figure out the problem. There was no spark, compression or exhaust but we could smell fuel.We went to my buddies shop and got a couple of ignitors and fooled with the distributor to see if that would help but there was very minimal spark. We eventually boosted it with my buddies A4 and when it started I wanted to cry metal on metal grinding so he shut it off immediatly. He was convinced it was his resonater from his exhaust but I told him it was his valvetrain but he wanted to try it again so he started it up and the same noise occured. He was in denial and didn't want to beleive this was happening but he new(he's a Lexus Mechanic) he floated his head and the noise was his valves hitting his psitons. Now my buddy who was in the car said that in first gear he smacked the rev limiter so I'm thinking that this is the cause of floating his head since over rev is the reason people float heads. Now he has to spend lots more money on a rebuild so once it's complete the car is sold he's piking up a CBR 600 RR.Anyways what are your opinions on this reasoning as to how it happened.I guess you can't really find out until you rip the motor apart but this just sucks especially with an ITR motor it should be able to handle the occasional over rev.Post up your opinions.

**** happens!! It sucks I know how he feels but thats racing.

What is his rev limiter set at? He could have also skipped timing and hit a valve!

No we checked and his timing was on his Rev Limit was set at 9700rpm and he was using Uberdata as programming.Fuel cutoff was 10,000rpm's I'm very interested to see once the motor is apart what exactly happened. He was using a GSR Map combined with B16a2 Map to run everything off of he was using my buddies chipped p28 with Hondata but it was programmed for a B16a2 so he went the Uberdata route and this happened.I am the one who was driving his car during tuning we started at 9:00pm and finsihed the next night at 6:00am.It hopefully had nothing to do with the tuning were trying to find out.

32k civic EG with a 10k ITR motor...

Try paragraphs also, they help seperate ideas.

Anyway, this seems like BS, just my two cents.

It's got 32k into it weather people believe it or not I've seen the receipts. It's not exactly my cup of tea but he's the owner and it's his car so anyone elses opinions he couldn't care less about. Here's everything I can think of he has spent on the car,it does have some rice on it but he does win a lot of shows down here.

$6000 for the B18c5 motor completely legit(Japan Autoparts)

$2500 on the swap plus hasport mounts(includes labour)

$4500 on aftermarket (Skunk2 exhaust,AEBS Intake Manifold,Injen CAI,Optional JDM Header,DC Strut Bars,Sparco Wheel,DC Sports Engine dress up kit,VIS OEM CF Hood,AGX's/Neuspeed Race springs,Rims,Rubber Yokohama Parada's,CF Duckbill spolier,Headlights,Tailights)

$10,000 on body work done @ Extreme Customs(Full Xenon Kit,Shaved everything,Relocated Gas Cap behind Tail Light,Shaved Trunk Lid with IS 300 Reverse Lights,Completely molded body kit no lines,Complete paint job whole car stripped)

$8000 on Interior/System(Recaros,Sparco Harnesses,Indash Clarion DVD,Infinity Kappa 6 in a half's front,4 Infinity Kappa's rear,2 Kicker Comp VR's in Custom Box,2 1200watt JBL Amps,Wiring,2 MTX Capacitors)

Everything was purchased new he's like that he never buys anything used.So now you can see how much money has been invested in this car, I'll try and post some pics even though it's not typical HT style.Even though it's not my style I respect it because a lot of hard work and long hours has gone into it.

I told him not to rev it too high but what would I know.It is completely his fault for over reving the motor he thought for some reason nothing would happen. He was warned by me and others not to bring it that high and to lower his rev limit but he didn't listen so now he's paying for it.I'm going to my buddies shop where the car is right now I'll post exactly what blew up once I see the motor apart.

Oh well, at least it was a stock motor and now he can put some aftermarket parts in it. It looks like he should have skipped a little body work and bought some springs/retainers. I wouldn't take a stock ITR vavle train up that high either.
