ITR doesn't pull anymore in VTEC
i had a topic about my vtec not working a while back but it didnt help much. My vtec still isnt working. I have no idea whats wrong. WHat are the things that go into vtec that make them work so i can check them. I have a apexi vtec controller do you think thats messing something up. I dont because it worked fine awile back and i havent touched it since. Please help. I cant hit vtec. ALso when vtec hits at 5600 my vtec controller says vtec is on and it makes the vtec noise but i just dont fell a pull anymore.
if you hear it switching to the big lobes, VTEC is working. Either something isnt tuned right, or there is a different problem somewhere. Also, just because you dont feel the "pull" doesnt mean its not working. For max power and torque, you will probably want to tune out the "pull" that you would normally feel on a stock motor and have a nice smooth cross over to VTEC. Did you install the VTEC controller?

Do you have any other mods? If you're used to listening to Dual Cam VTEC cars with an intake or exhaust, you might be used to hearing the engagement but on a stock R, you might not hear it cause you're used to a more "Noticeable" engagement.
Like they said, check OIL levels because VTEC operates on Oil pressure, Temperature, and Vehicle speed. You will not hear VTEC if you're parked and just revving like an idiot ricer at a stop light. Return the settings to the stock settings and make sure your VTEC Engagement point hasn't been altered. How about maint. that needs to be done ( valve adjustment )?
If you hear it, its working properly but give it a good 3rd gear run on the highway when no one's around. ANY R owner knows that 3rd gear pull and you'd defn know if there was a problem with VTEC in 3rd gear.
3rd gear rocks ( mine was 4th but 3rd was the **** stock
)

IT has skunk 2 intake manifold and dc header and aem cold air intake. not much. It doesnt pull in 3rd gear either. THe apexi controller was in their when i bought it. When i first had the car vtec worked fine and would feel the pull but now nothing. this may sound stupid but i had teh flywheel resurfaced and the grinded it down preety far. The peopel who put it in said it was prolly grinded down to far but they put it in anyways. Could a new flywheel fix it .
Another thing you can check is to use the "Monitor" on the VAFC and have it display the VTi and VTo lines. Then you'll know if/when the ECU and the VAFC are putting out the VTEC signal respectively.
You might also want to check your VAFC settings for what the crossover is set at or maybe even do an "Initialize" and reset all your settings (if you want to keep your settings, you better write them down...
).
Is your VAFC spliced directly into your engine harness or are you using a separate "dongle"? It's possible that if everything above checks out, the VTo line might just be disconnected/spliced wrong or something to that effect.
Good luck.

any other help. DO you think it is the vtec contrller. I dont think it is because you can hear the switchover point and the controller says vto and vti are coming on. It seems to be burning oil really fast so thers a problem with that. SHould i get that fixed first to see if it helps sense vtec runs off oil prussure?
Ok there are alot of problems going into a vtec system not working. First you must determine wether or not it is an electrical problem or mechanical problem. Second when you find out which one it is you can go from there.
heres some of the ways i found out the problem to some cars not working right:
Electrical:
-Check the grounds to your ecu, you can locate the motor harness ground on top of the thermostat housing. It should be a 10mm bolt. This is the ground for the solenoid.
-Check the wiring, sometimes things get loose of they have a faulty connection. I would check the vtec wiring first(Check the chart for which pin-out the wires are)
-Check the vtec controller, Ive come across many vtec controllers that just f*#K things up rather then help performance.
-Check your main RELAY, this unit can also cause your vtec controller to misfunction.
+there are more electrical detection systems but this is all i can remember for now.
Mechanical
-Check the solenoid to make sure it is still working. You can do this by manually turning on the solenoid system with a source of power. You can check the board for this system of opperation.
-Check the oil pan and make sure it is not dented becase this might effect your oil pick-up and it will lack the pressure it needs to send to the head.
-Check your head, there might be something wrong internally. Like an oil orifice that has a bad o-ring or some sort, Hopefully this isnt the case....becuase this will be time consuming and will cost somewhat between 5-hundreds of dollors to fix.
But before you do all this stuff, get a tune up, clean the injectors, throttlebodie, vtec solenoid screen, etc...
Good luck. having a vtec motor without vtec really sucks...trust me i know....

i had the same problem. My car would hit vtec, but it wouldnt pull. Later i found that it was a wiring problem as well as the timing. check all the sensors, especially the distibutor and then re-do your timing.
