Got a dilemma making my Header/Cat/Exhaust all work together...
last Saturday I installed my DC 4-1 header on my '98 GS-R. The cat is now too long to fit with all the piping since the Tanabe RM I've got is made to fit GS-R piping. My local muffler shop just quoted me way too much to fab a hi-flow cat that will fit in the space provided [12"]. Kteller says he can get me a straight pipe to fit in between, but I'm not keen on polluting the environment to see a marginal gain. Unfortunately, I'm also reading that a lot of the high-flow cats turn to crap after xxxx amount of miles. I'm thinking of running the test pipe if I have to, but I'm seeing what other's have done about their situation, as I'm sure I'm not the first one to run into this problem. Any input is welcome, unless you're telling me to search.
I just bought a universal catco high flow for like $60 and had my muffler man weld some ends and flanges on it for another $20 when I did my cat. Besides hondas(or just about any 4 banger without a turbo) sound so nasty without a cat.
im getting my jdm 4-1 dc sport header installed soon and i also have a skunk2 exhaust installed, i talked to sms product (smsp) u can find him on h-t but he is making a custom carsound cat for me

I'm in the same situation except IPS racing is making mine for me. Still waiting for it to come though

I think I'm gonna follow through with Kendall's idea. I was taking a look at the flange on my exhaust piping and the people I had remove the bottleneck welded up a flange with a 2" diameter
. I'm gonna order a universal carsound, get some flanges welded on, and my exhaust piping chopped up. I'm thinking it'd be a cheaper option since I can get the cat for $60, and the welding shouldn't cost too much since I'll be removing the piping to get it cut and they won't be installing it.
