How to tell if your o2 sensor is broken

I believe one logical symptom would be that it runs rich or lean for a really long time.. Because the Block Learn/Fuel Trim numbers change according to the O2S. And if the O2S is slow to respond or doesn't respond, the Fuel Trim numbers won't change..

Voltmeter while it's plugged in & running... It should oscillate quickly around 0.5volts. An oscilloscope would be good, but some voltmeters are fast enough to see the fluctuations.

Say if I unplugged the o2 sensor and drove the car around the the car runs absolutely **** then would that mean my o2 sensor is fine. But if it runs the same can I conclude the o2 sensor is broken?
