How to maintain a CF hood??
I just picked up a used, but in MINT condition Fiber Images hood for my 00 Si yesterday .. and i see alot of the hoods around here fading, turning green, clear coat stripping etc. I know most of those are shitty no name hoods, but i wanna know what exactly do i need to do to keep it looking mint? I washed my car today and put a coat of wax on the hood .... other that that, anything else i should do? Thanks! Pics may be up soon .. mmMmmM EBP Si with CF Hood
Keep it waxed dood and you shouldn't have a prob with fiberimages.......most of the el cheapo hoods fade dunno why....and previous gens...
I have an EBP Si and I had a Fiber Images hood that turned to crap. I think it has something to do w/ the heat from the motor and the gel-coat that's applied. My suggestion for keeping it looking nice: colormatch
Otherwise count on having a foggy hood in the future. Good luck.

the clear coat on my Vis hood is pretty much destroyed--meaning,its all cloudy looking. i waxed the hell out of that thing too. Living in the desert with 100+ temps everyyyyday probably doesnt help i guess..

what kind of wax should we use??? ive seen a thread before about this and i just cant find it n e more... all i remember was 3m was the maker.. and i know u cant use regular car wax for ur hood
wax and clean as usual, but if your usual parking spot at home is under direct sunlight, put a cover over it, the proxy thing will get cloud up by the UV ray.
give it a year or two and you'll have to clearcoat the whole thing again.
I am sporting my vis oem style hood, it's perfect

I always recommend using 3M or Meguiars Mirror Glaze to my customers.
The best stuff to use is the 3M wax and cleaner available from your local marine shop. Its specifically made for gel coats.

it depend on the quality of the hood...i know a few places that sell several different types of cf hoods, the more you pay the more clear coats the hoods had...also, some cf hoods start to warp/melt from the underside...as for you, you should be fine since you have a FI hood!

You guys need to watch out cause some waxes actually do not work well with gel coats and will cause a discoloration. Different manuf. use different gel coats.
3M makes 2 good cleaner waxes specially made for gelcoats. This works great on our hoods, and should be safe for most gelcoats.

Part Number #09006 or #09009. It comes in a 16oz. bottle and usually goes for about 10 bux.
