exhaust question (knocking)/(rattling)
Hey all... there's plenty of threads regarding exhaust rattle but NONE that seem to fit the problem that im experiencing. I have this (more often than not) exhaust knocking/rattling going on. the source of the problem seems to be where the pipe goes over rear swaybar. For some strange reason, as i said, more often than not, the entire exhaust shakes to the point where it knocks up against that rear swaybar creating an awful rattle noise.
i installed everything properly and all bolts are tight. ive ghettoed zip tied the muffler to where it pulls the hangers as far as it can go away from that sway bar, but yet, for some reason it still hits it. I notice this happening more so when im at idle, or when im moving up through the rpm range it will sometimes do it as well. I dont often use the AC, but when i do, if im stopped at a light, its constantly making the sound. I've can clearly see the piping hit that bar after examining the problem. I plan to replace the rubber hangers since im do for some new ones, but what else could be causing this to happen. BTW, i have a 5 zigen fireball catback. Very annoying problem and i def want to get it fixed. How can i approach this issue in the best cost efficient way. Even if i have to take it to a muffler shop, how should i present the problem to them... any immediate fixes for the time being??? not many others seem to have had this problem...sounds like many others have had heatshield or cat problems.
ive removed ALL of the heatshields but nothing seems to have helped. once again its the piping hitting the rear sway bar just above the rear axle... any advice on this much appreciated.
thanks
Andy

my cousin has the same problem he has the skunk2 exhaust and it rattles, from what i heard you need to change your cat to a high flow cat.
get a carsound cat
get a carsound cat
I'm having the same problem in my '93, the exhaust keeps rattling against something underneath the car. I'll let you know when I take a closer look, I've been swamped w/ work.

your stock cat is causing a bottleneck in the air flow which is causing vibrations in the exhaust which is hitting your swaybar to fix the problem you need a high flow cat to reduce the bottleneck and therefore reduce the vibrations
my cousin went to a muffler shop and thats what they told him.
go here for the cat, they have good prices on carsound cats.

I'm absolutely positive that its hitting the swaybar or LCA which ever...but in any case, i agree with gsr515, i'm going to look at getting a highflow cat that hopefully will help reduce that vibration... it very well could be that the cat is causing a problem as well, but i know for sure that ive seen the piping hitting that rear swaybar just above the rear axle. i looked just the other day to verify for sure when the car was at idle.
