Default black metal shaving in my oil (did a search)

hi, i did a search on shavings in oil but found nothing. only thing i found was copper shavings means ring. however, this morning i did my daily "check oil before drive to work" thing, and when i pulled out my dip stick, stuck to it was small black metal peice stuck to it. i of course immediately said "****" really loud and starting mumbling to myself i blew my motor. after i calmed myself down by counting backwards, i stuck the dip stick in again to see if i could grab another peice of metal. i did it a few times, and nothing. so i went to start the car to see if it would start, plus by this time i was a lil late to work. everything started perfectly. so i was like...eh..i guess its ok....so i drove to work (which is 5 minutes away) and everything drove perfectly (well at least for those 5 minutes). i parked in my normal parking space and decided to check the oil again to see if i could grab that mysterious peice of metal. took out the dip stick...again, nothing.

my question to you is this...if i only found one tiny shaving, and everything drives normally and starts normally...should i be worried?

after work i will drain the oil, and do a compression test, but for the 8 hours that i'm at work....i wont have a peace of mind....so...can u tell me wut u think that lil black peice is? it was very small, kinda half circle, oval shape. it was black in the oval side, and the inside seemed to be white? my memory is fading on me...i shoulda kept the peice but at that time when i found it..i was cursing up a storm...so i lost it.

any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

copper flakes usually mean bearing wear is occurring. as far as the black piece its really hard to say. if i were u id drop the oil pan and pull off the rods caps just to be safe. wont cost u more than an hour or 2 of your time but can save you hundreds of dollars in the long run

knowing my dumb ***, it'll take me a whole day to drop the pan. my down pipe goes straight over the oil pan, and welded on the exhaust, no cat. i would have to drop the whole exhaust. blah. i hate being paranoid of crap.

i dont know about your car but on mine i was able to just unbolt the manifold from the head and it gave me enough clearance between the oilpan and downpipe to pull the oil pan off

I have the same car engine.

Drop the oil pan, check it out. If there is a buildup of stuff like metal shavings, probably main bearings. If you drop it and do not find anything, i wouldnt even worry about it.

If you know how, you can drop the oil pan, take off the oil pickup, drop the plate, and it will expose your crankshaft. From there you can pop off the bearing caps, and peek at the bearings. You can visually tell if they are smooth, but you buy these little strips at NAPA called plastigage to measure the clearance and make sure they are ok.

But if i were you , and the engine seems ok and you havent had any problems, just drop the pan and go from there. Maybe a piece of sludge or something fell in the oil dipstick or something was in your oil when the oil was changed.

Dont sweat it

UPDATE:

i did a compression test, 200, 200, 200, 200. so that was cool.

i drained the oil, i used a magnet and circled the oil to see if i could catch anything. nothing.

lesson of the day.... having turbo really does turn you into a paranoid freak...but its well worth it when u take it out for a late nite drive.
