LSD question for HPDE and AutoX
Hey guys I'm now running a 91 Si in STS for local AutoX events but am looking at doing some HPDE events but dont trust the 180k mile engine in the car now. So I am going to drop in a SiR I B16 with an LSD. I am going to get the engine from hmotorsonline.com and they offer the swap with a LSD for an additional $300.
So here's the question. Which LSD to go with the LSD from hmotors, OPM, Quaife, or others?
Thanx for the insite!!!!

If they're offering you an LSD for an additional $300, then it is almost certainly an OEM Honda Torsen axle. These are very similar to the Quaife axle, which is also a Torsen unit. The Quaife and Honda units are virtually indestructible and require no special maintenance other than the usual gearbox oil changes.
The OPM LSD I'm familiar with is a clutch pack not entirely unlike Kaaz. You will probably be able to get the power to the ground in a greater variety of circumstances with these, but they do require more maintenance and special oils, and they will still wear out sooner.
I hope that helps. The OEM Honda units are such a good buy that it's hard to recommend anything else unless you've got some serious power to put down, or you're dealing with some seriously adverse circumstances. At my stage of development I don't really feel the need for power-off LSD, but I know that some people think about that.

Yeah it's most certainly not an OMP or Quaife... I'd ask to find out exactly what you're going to get.
Also, you're most likely going to wind up in D-Mod after the swap... I think that's the next logical class. ??

Assuming the engine swap is the only mod from the current STS setup, he gets bumped into StreetMod.
Getting a freshly rebuilt stock Si motor is another alternative that lets the car stay in STS where it is most competitive. Not that it cant be competitive in SM, just that it will take a crapload more $$$$.

The car is fully prepped for STS. I have almost locked up my regional championship. I have a set of 13x8 Keiser wheels my dad is using on his CSP CRX we will be trading. And to my knowledge Chris Shenfield drove a simerly prepeped 88 DX to 2nd at the SCCA Tour event in DC.
The idea for the swap is that its cheap fun!!! Its more reliable for track events (VIR is 4 hrs away and I have no tow vehical), and for AutoXing more power and R compound tires, super fun!!!!!!
Thanx for the help I'll wait to hear what hmotors says about the LSD they offer.

Keep in mind that the B16 does add more HP up top, it also adds about 70lbs of weight and no more low-end torque than the stock D16.
On the track the B16 would be a better motor, but for autox I sometimes have my doubts.
But for $300, if you do the swap, definitely get the LSD.

Todd: I figure that the 13's will help keep the engine up in its power band. And for track events I figure I'll pick up a set of the new Team Dynamic's Pro Race 1 in a 14x7 and some Kumho Victoracers (Cheap)
Plus if you look at the pax differance for CSP to SM its .001 differance!!!
