Cam gears not in the exact same position on b18a
When I was doing the valve adjustment on my cousins DA with a b18a1 in it, I found that the cam gears don't line up exactly. When the 'up' on the exhaust cam gear is at 12 o'clock, the intake cam gear's 'up' is at 12:15 o'clock. It apears to be about 1 tooth or so. I am wondering, is this normal, or did he perhaps miss a shift and skip a gear by over revving?
The car idles very funny, like its very bouncey and always climbing. It was NOT doing this when we bought it, three days ago. However it was doing this when we got back, and I know that he missed a shift on the way home (150mls, first time stick driver ;p) pretty bad.
If they are supposed to both be pointing at 12 o'clock, how do I know which one slipped? Becuase either the intake cam is retarded to 12:15 or the exhaust cam is advanced to 11:45.
Also, how do you check the timing on these motors? I see no mark on the crank pulley for tdc and the advance that I can use as refrence with a timing light.
