RSX-S DYNO's Injen intake, Borla ehaust, impressive numbers! +21HP!
I must say I am extremely impressed with the K20's numbers in this months article of import tunner! I will make this short and sweet....
BASE LINE TEST:
159.9 HP
120.6TQ
Borla Exhaust
165.9 HP
122.6 TQ
Injen Intake (I think short ram with heat shield)
181.1 HP
129.6 TQ
one sentence sums it all up. A writer for import tunner said that it was like adding a small shot of nitrous to the car. I say simply amazing I didnt think honda would let us down on the K20 engine!

wow, that is amazing! However 159.9 sounds pretty low for a car rated at 200 hp don't you think? Its like that one test with a GSR that was putting down 133 hp to the wheels, then 151 after the aem cai.
import tuner again has no idea what they r talking about...at least distinguish between crank hp and wheel hp... this is not the first time info was shady in that mag......i swear...import tuners staff is all ricers........
I agree. I stopped reading Import Tuner a while ago. They really need to step up and make the mag a little better. Ever since it went to monthly instead of seasonly it has really sucked. Their dynos are always really off. I don't know what they use for their tests but it is not very good. IMO

the bottom line is they do a baseline so you know what the car started with, then the numbers with mods... that sufficiently shows how much power you gain from mods. dyno's can be very different depending on many factors, HOWEVER, I must agree that Import Tuner is RICE! Also I don't appreciate finding explicit words when i read it... is it "cool" to cuss with no reason to? Is that supposedly them "keeping it real"? I dunno... also the guys who interview the models are horny DORKS! Last one i read... the guy said, "so no bumping clams for you, huh?" after hearing that the chick is not bisexual or a lesbian. Great potential for the new motors though... im happy to hear.
YA I HAVE TO AGREE...there was a test donr in one of the magazines i saw a while back where they removed the intake and picked up 11hp!! so there is no way a shortram makes more..
i saw the article ANACC2NV is taking about- they removed the intake & the exhaust and gained close to 20 hp - which backs up the second test with the borla & injen
could be a wed engine? I am not defending the mag I was just impressed. Also the intake could be cold air but I higly doubt it.
PS: I got it out of the JAN 02 mag of I.T. Yeah there is some rice in there about the cussing tho I like it after reading colum after colum of road and track's genious lyrics.
(sorry for my pathetic spelling!)

They install an AEM intake and it made a little over 7 hp.

That is the hot air intake though. The design of the K20 puts the filter in a much better place then on the older Honda motors(**) where the filter was behind the radiator fan. I wonder how they will run the CAI and what the numbers will be compaired to this one.
** Ugh .. my B18C is an "older Honda motor" now. Snif snif.

SPiFF,
I doubt if it is a better place for the new DC5, because looking at your pci, the filter is basically sucking in hot air trapped in the engine department, and there is so little space in the engine comparment that I think it is really hard to work out a good intake on RSX......just my .02

I made 181.1 HP and 132 lbs of TQ to the wheel without the Borla Exhaust just the intake. Here's a link to my dyno

BTW .. the K20 torque curve .. er line .. is amazing.

As far as the Import Tuner dyno, they also tested AEM for the next issue and it made HP in the 7 range. They too advertise in IT. Blitz also received high numbers on their intake and exhaust, and they don't even advertise. Many have done individual dynos and have received similar numbers. How do you explain that?
Lets just say that you had an Injen intake and it really made the power, are you still going to be angry and doubt those numbers? There was a time that everybody on newcelica.org also doubted Injen's numbers on the GTS. Injen provided intakes for them to test for themselves. Everybody was finally convinced and excited to purchase the intake for themselves. Injen says that some cars are very restrictive from the factory. When the car is restrictive they are able to gain considerable HP after allowing the car to breathe better.
Here is a dyno taken from the Injen site, this is just shown as a sample. Why not test it yourself? You will probably come up with very similar figures. The dyno was done at Atomic Motorsports, some of you may know Dr. Charles, Honda GURU. Plus they aren't even an Injen dealer.

I agree with Honda318dx,remember they are still getting paid advertising $$$$Until I see an RSX dyno here locally with those results I am not buying it.Anything is possible but I want unbiased proof.

But in general, I question the legitimacy of "Import Tuner" Dynos (and most other magazine dynos)...
