Passing smog with a motor swap?
which motor would be the most likely to pass smog, a b16, or a gsr. both obd1. i know i have to convert the wiring bcuz i have an obd0 car but which motor would be most likely to pass smog? also at the same time, which has the most potetial?
I'd say the gsr has the most potential seeing as how it's got more displacement. They're both likely to pass smog. I dont see a reason why one would be more likely to pass than the other.
Ya, both will pass, just run US spec manifolds and ecu's. Its tuff to get usdm obd1 b16a ecus tho.
PS, this if if you are looking to ref the motor.

To add credibility to what Droppedcrxsi said, it should be noted that he managed to get his GSR equipped CRX past the state Referee's visual check!!! (still pending the "sniff" portion as I understand it)

if your not going to ref it then the b16 will be more lickely to pass. they will limit the emitions according to your stock engine and the 1.8 will put out more of everything at idle then a 1.5.

This is tru, I had a b16a before the b18c, and it passed smog with flying colors. The smog check guys questioned the "visual" of the engine but if you can get past that you should be fine.
Wes is also correct on my "pending" referee experience.
