Type-R LSD Installation Options

I got my hands on a type-r LSD for 200 bucks, and I would like to install it myself because shops want to charge me 350-400 to do it, or 240 if i bring in just the tranny. Can this be a hard job? I know you have to check clearances inside the tranny. Should I try to do it all myself, or just drop the tranny and take it to the shop?
I would probably just drop the tranny and take it in. Of course that's because the inside of a tranny scares me. If you know your way around the inside, you probably could pull it off. I'm not quite sure what the job requires. I'm sure you'll make the right decision.
you can do it yourself if you have a helms otherwise drop it yourself and get them to do it. its not that hard but I wouldn't do it if you have never done it before.
if you do not have a Helms manual, you will get lost in there, and maybe get in big trouble.
I had a Helms, a Haynes and printouts of C-speed and Hybrid site info, and it took me a whiel to get it installed and back in the car.
you can do it, it just takes a very patient person.
Actually the hardest part was removing the tranny from my GSR.... damn rusty bolts, and all the other things you have to remove to drop the tranny!!!!! -header (and radiator fan of course), CAI, strut tower bar, axles, misc. cables, and that god awful shift-linkage-pin. that was the worst part.
If you can remove the tranny yourself... then do the LSD install yourself. swapping differentials with a tranny case already on your workbench is such a piece of cake.
I wrapped the gears with masking tape to keep them all together as one unit once I split open the tranny case. Maybe 4 layers of masking tape around the shafts and gears, all up an ddown them all to keep them as one unit.. not too tight either because you want to keep the shafts from getting stuck in the bottom half of the case and it will be hard to remove the taped parts at once.
HTH!

Lucky SOB, (grumbling) getting an ITR LSD for $200.
The install prices seem like a good deal if the place knows what they are doing. I was quoted 750 for a complete install. If you can drop the tranny I would bring the tranny into a shop. Also consider getting some new bearings and stuff while your at it. It just makes sense while the tranny is apart.
