race harnesses
just wondering your opinions or if anyone has one of these or dealt with them. I prefer not to skimp out to much on safety, but these seem reasonable, satisfaction guaranteed, and I try to keep it safe on the roads. As long as the belts arent fraying and the stitching on the connectors seem tight and good I don't see why these would be a problem.

anyone beg to differ and discourage me from purchasing these, or want to encourage me that these should be good enough.
(and Im not looking to get the 5 point harnesses even though all that talk of submarining etc)
thanks

For that cheap of a price I would not buy them. You do not know who the manufacturer is and for all you know, even though they say guaranteed, it means nothing if the seller skips town. I'd stay with a proven name you know like Sabelt, Sparco, Schroth, Simpson, Takata, etc.
Plus like you said, "you prefer not to skimp on safety..." Spend the extra and don't skimp on your safety. You can get a good 4pt harness for under $100 that you know is safe and proven.
Good luck!

Do searches on the net and you'll find some good deals. Or maybe try the classified section here. I got a Sabelt harness for about $35 in excellent condition perfect for occasional road racing and autoxing.

not bad that Gforce one looks pretty decent.
Im just wondering how easy is it to detach the latch that connects belts together.
Also it says $69 for the set, is that 2?
And any idea if that will reach my rear set belt mounting points that are on the C pillar?

The Sparco Clubman is a good one that I know will reach the C-pillar. You'd have to call on the G-Force one.
For some reason I can't find my links to the harness sites I've saved. If I find them I'll post them up.

Do not bother with 4-pt harnesses, go for the 5-point.
And if you really care about safety, do NOT even THINK about putting harnesses in your car and driving on the street unless you have rollover protection (rollbar or cage) and make SURE said rollover protection has provisions for mounting the harnesses properly.
I am NOT joking here, there are alot of idiot drivers out there, and a disaster can happen to anyone, any time of day or night, with zero warning. If it happens to you and you're strapped in some harnesses w/o rollover protection, the situation will probably be MUCH more dangerous than if you were in stock seatbelts.
Just something to think about, stay safe. Nothing and I repeat nothing, is more important than that.

hmm patrick does have a point no matter how safe I am, it doesn't protect me from other drivers.
I thought I heard somewhere that it is safe to mount them to the rear upper seat belt points on the C pillar. I think on Schroths website thats where they have harnesses you can mount them too, and said a lot of BMW people do it because its easy and safe.
But its better then what I have right now, I pretty much have no seatbelt at all and I hate it cause I forget and still do stupid things.

If you are strapped into harnesses and something happens that makes your car roll over, a broken neck or worse is pretty much guaranteed.

the only company i've delt with is RCI. pretty quality material, good thick belts (around 3 inches wide) plenty of stitching on the seams and ends. quick release latch and a great price. when i mounted them, i used the stock seat belt location in the rear of the car where the middle seat belt bolts to underneath the seat (this is in a DA).
i'd like to add that harness's are not street legal. it is very illegal to remove your factory restraint system. riding w/ a harness on you can still get driving w/o seat belt tickets because they are not DOT approved.

haha funny you should mention that, back in the ricer days of my friends and I, we were riding in my friend's 89 Prelude which had blue 4-pt WeaponR harnesses (ghey + dangerous as hell). One night we went through a roadblock where cops were checking licenses and seatbelts and to see if anybody was driving under the influence, etc. Cop saw the harnesses and yelled to another cop "this one's got those racing belts, let 'em go on"
but yeah it's pretty retarded to ride them w/o any sort of rollover protection.

I had purchased a 3" 5 pt Simpson harness from Summit Racing. It was $94.00 + tax.
what is the reason for you wanting a harness really? So guys DO use a harness for auto X events to help keep them in their seat, but that is not a high speed event. They also use the stock belt for normal driving.
I'd say if you are going to be a serious racer, get into HPDE, Honda Challenge, etc., then I would get a 6 pt ( as i hear it will be mandatory in the future, is that right?). If you've only going to use it for auto X or something, I bet the Sparco clubman or something like that is sufficient.

The Scroth Rallye 3 will reach the C point, I have them in my car.
If this is for a daily driver however, I wouldn't suggest them. I only use mine for autox, driving around town is a huge pain because you cannot move. Forget turning to look in your blind spot, or possibly even operating your radio (depending on how far back you are, it is difficult to reach mine). It's a huge inconvenience with no added safety measure over the OEM belts.

That's exactly what makes them deadly if the car rolls over w/o rollover protection. With stock belts you can still move to the side and survive if the car rolls on its roof, but with a harness you have nowhere to go.
