rough transition from idle

rough transition from idle

My '98 LS 5 speed transitions from idle to on throttle and back very roughly. It's extremely difficult to drive the car smoothly. Anyone have any ideas as to the likely cause?

if you mean the idle rpm fluctuates... the problem can be a faulty fitv, iacv, idle dips too low, very rich fuel trim, or vaccum leak.
