I have a 98 base model lude...no performance mods yet. When i get in my car and it is compleatly cool, like you can touch the headers and not fry, it is quick and feels strong. After it gets warm i think it gets slower, and sometimes if i Vtec a few times too many , i get a burning smell in the car. The thing is that my temp gauge reads about a fourth of the way up, when i know for damn sure that its cookin...Im pretty sure that the gauge is broken but any thoughts on the smell, or why the car might over heat? My dyno said im getting 135 to the wheels, in my Vtec h22a...so that for sure shows there is something wrong

 

um, is it constantly stuck at 1/4 position? When I got my new engine out of the shop they had broken the coolant thermostat and I nearly fried it on my way home because the fans never ran. I'm not sure about 5g H22s, but my H23's is right under the dizzy, and it has some green trim around it. See if it is loose or wobbily.

Wait, i thought something might be up with my fans. Mine only work when the A/C is on, which is never b/c i feel like a ***** when i use it. There are two fans behind my radiator, both of which dont move unless the A/C is on. Are they supposed to be on when the engine is running?

 

So im guessing that Vtec burning oil is a very bad thing? What would cause that and any idea how to fix it?
