replacing the upper control arm and ball joint
How is it all gonna go down... i was told by a mechanic that he couldnt align my car until i replaced this because it was loose. so now that i got my lowering springs i decided to do them both at once. Can someone tell me what im gonna have to do? what tools will i need? alls i know is im gonna be borrowin the neighbors floor jack for this one.
I have only looked at my car with the wheels off once, and i know where the ball joint is, i just dont know how to get it off, what its attached to, what it does, nothing.

On my 88 hatch the upper control arm and ball joint are one piece. With a socket set and pickle fork it should come out easy. I don't know if you can replace this without separating knuncle from axle, tie rods, and lca. It's attached to the top of your knuckle. The ball joints are welded to the uca. Just get new uca's and you're set
let me clarify, i have a new uca with ball joint. both pieces came together.
and whatever you said about knuckles and axles and tie rods, i wish i knew what you were talking about but i guess ill find out.
