engine won't stay on!

1991 Honda civic Si

Well this morning i went to go start my car and it started but wouldn't stay on. then i started it and held the gas at around 2500 rpms and let go and it stayed on.
it gave me a code 14(eacv) would you guys know what the problem might have been. It is not doing it anymore. just have to see till tmrw morning.

any clues?

well code 14 is your iar ( idle air control valve) but i still dont understand how that would make your car act like that? sorry thats all i can come up with man
