84.5mm bore in a B17A...I'm just trying to figure this out.
Just contemplating various engine buildups for the future when I'm not poor. Basically I'm thinking about re-sleeving my B17 and boring it to 84.5mm. Then using some shelf B20VTEC pistons from Endyn, Arias, Wiseco, whoever. Since they're 84.5mm pistons with valve reliefs for a VTEC head I figure they should work. I'm a bit confused about the headgasket. Should a B20 gasket be used? That'll block off the oil holes for VTEC so that means an external oil feed for the head. Are there any custom 84mm bore VTEC headgaskets out there? Can the B20 headgasket be modified to re-open the oil passages to the head? Yeah, lotsa questions...enlighten me.
I thought all B-series pistons are interchangeable as long as you have the right bore? People put CTR pistons in LS/VTECs...
I think the difference lies in the wrist pins. Some have smaller diameters than others.
I don't what the drop-in compatible piston/rod pairings are, but I'm sure somebody has all this info crammed into there head.

81mm pistons DO NOT fit in a 84mm bore.

Here's what you need to do.
Order your pistons for your engine, not for the LS/CRVTEC. They have different design specs.
Then order the head gasket from http://www.nrg-racing.com they carry up to 85mm VTEC head gaskets.
The only thing you will have to do is move the water passages in the head. Take it to the machine shop with the new headgasket, and have the people there move the water holes to fit with the new head gasket.
Um, no.

I still don't quite get it...CRVTEC pistons are 84.5mm and have valve reliefs for a VTEC head. Wouldn't that be the exact as an 84.5mm B17A piston?
About those headgaskets from nrg-racing.com...I don't see anything about them on their site. Just a Blitz 82mm headgasket.
