Default Hi all, newb here...looking for direction :)

First off, I just wanted to say hi...been lurking for a while, but finally decided to pipe up. My situation is that I've decided to buy a cheap car for now, just to get me by for 2-3 years. I'm sure I've missed a link somewhere, but is there an FAQ with a breakdown of different Civic models by model year? I'm looking at the mid-90s gen, which I'll do some basic upgrades and maybe an engine swap by the end of the year.

I really am not trying to **** anyone off, so if there's been an identical request to mine, just PM/email me and I'll bugger off...for now

But any suggestions/directions to model breakdowns, basic aftermarket lists (I'm sure there's some basic "stages" that things are done in...something like that would be awesome) and lastly, I was wondering how possible an engine swap is, in terms of engine availability, and good shops around Detroit.

Thanks all...I always hate being the new guy on a board, but hopefully you'll see I'm not some immature wannabe ricer. I just want to buy/develope a fun car with good mileage...no kits, just performance.

Yep, I've already gotten a basic rundown of different years, but Edmunds requires a lot of clicking. I was hoping for a big text list which includes model+engine numbers, since I like simplicity in doing my research.

Thanks for the generation year breakdown, that'll really help...looks like I'm looking at a 5th or 6th gen. Probably should stick with 5th gen anyway, to allow myself more money to spend on parts.

Sad part is that I'm an audio nut...my system's gonna end up costing more than half of the car. Any good reviews on the Pioneer AVIC-N1? I can get one at retail cost, so why not.

P.S. I think I'll just start editing and appending things to this post, since I'm limited to 5 posts a day as a newb, right?

On that website, it gives the 96+ Civic EX the engine code D16Z7. 96-00 Civic EX is D16Y8. Just thought i would give everyone a heads up

I'm not so sure about the 96+ numbers on the site. I was under the impression all 96+'s were D16's. I'm sure the HX had a D16Y5 and the EX had a D16Y8, I thought the others had D16Y7's.

there's also a site out there that i saw one that compared the tires visually too using an outlined box for the wheel or original tire and a filled box for the new tire, it was very very helpful but i can't find it anymore

I don't suppose anyone is located in Michigan? It'd be great to find some local help.
