Engine warm up in cold weather...and rpms dropping below idle upon deceleration.
I always thought fuel injected cars don't need to be "warmed up." I notice that my bone stock 01 gsr requires some warm up when the weather is cold.
Here's what happens. Under regular conditions, or when the engine is warmed up, the engine decelerates - upon clutch release - to idle and STAYS PUT.
But when it's not warmed up, during deceleration the engine rpm will drop below regular idle - all the way down to the low 100s and then it goes up to regular idle again. It's kind of hairy b/c if the rpms dropped any lower, the engine would quit.
Is there something wrong with my car?
It's only after I've driven around a bit, and the engine is at regular running temp, that the engine rpms will drop to idle properly w/o dipping below first.

Same thing happens on my 94 with 108K.....it'll take about 5 minutes to warm up depending on the harshness of the temperature and sometimes it will quickly drop below idle then come back, as long as she doesn't stall you don't have any problems....
I don't recall your condition being normal. I think my 97 gs-r stays at about 1500 during cold idle, then slowly drops down to normal. Even when I drive it cold and let the clutch out, I think the rpm stays high. Let me check tomorrow and I'll get back to you if I remember.
yea your right....what your engines are doin isnt normal..at least i dont think it is...mine stays up at 1500 till its warmed up even when im driving. goodluck
My car does do the high rpm cold idle for some time before it settles down to regular idle. It's during the first 5 or so minutes of entry into regular idle that I see my rpm dip below normal upon deceleration.
my 2k GSR does the same thing... for the first few minutes after idle, when i come to a stop the rpms dip below normal idle... not all the way to 100, but it'll stutter down to 2-350 rpms and come back up... doesn't happen all the time, though. i just figured it was a honda quirk, my rex did the same thing when i had it...
