Default Engine rebuild update: Day One

First of all - this is REALLY time consuming!

I would of had a little more accomplished but I misplaced a lower main bearings! Ahh...still didnt find it! I hope someone local has it in stock or it will set me back hard.

I did get the pistons installed and checked the ring end gap as well as deck clearance.
The ring end gap was right around .014"-.015". Endyn suggests .012" - .13" but what can I do.
The deck clearance pissed me off! I was expecting a clearance of around .020" but mine is around .030" (.030"-.032"). That will make my compression 10.9:1 which is lower then what I want. I guess Ill ahve the head milled .020" to achieve 11.5:1.

I also plastigauged the main bearings. All were right around .015" - .016"
Specs are .0009" - "0017 with the service limit being .020" so I figure Im good with those.

So on tomorrow's agenda...I need to find a lower main bearing (black) and then I can do a final install of the crank and then move on to plastigauging the rod bearings...hopefully those will all be ok.

Woohoo! Happy days are here again!

I called up the local Honda dealer where I got all my parts from, and the missing bearing half is there! I guess they never put it in the box with the rest of them and somehow I mis-counted it.

when you say the deck clearence is not what you expected it to be.........does that mean the pistons sit about .030 below the deck surface at TDC?

You working on it alone? Things like that are a lot easier with a friend, imo. Good luck with everything
