dont drill it out!
Take a dremel with a 1" cut off wheel and make a 1mm thick groove accross the head of each bolt (the ones that connect the ignition to column that are pressed in).
Then use a flathead screwdriver to unscrew them...reuse those bolts when you put then new one in...i did it a few months back

awesome advice... I dont have a good memory of what the steering column looks like....
When I got shipped the new ignition, there appeares to be cut marks from a cutoff wheel, with the riveted screw still in place. Whats it look like on the steering column side, and is that side tapped for bolts too?
What size bolts did you get?

See #4 in the top left of the pic...that's the bolt you'll need to cut a groove into on your stock column. Now, i dont know what comes with the new ignition but i just used that cut bolts to screw back in...

thanks for the diagram....
Like I said, I forgot whats on the steering column right now. Im at work.
With my newly shipped ignition, I do not have part # 3 or the shell that sits underneath it.
However, I do have the ignition with the other 'shell' that part #3 attachs to, and that bolt #4 secures. If you look closely at my picture you will see some light black lines and cross hatching within the yellow. I do now have the full half circle of the shell, only the outer pieces are left with the bolts tightly secured in there.
Can I dremel out the bolts and get new ones all together? I mean... Ill be getting off work around 7 or so, just wanted to know if I could swing by Depot on the way home or somethin to get the shat I need.

well...you could find bolts but i have no idea what size and i doubt anyone else does unless they have one laying around. Why not just use the old bolts? Once you dremel them you can just screw them back together? Also you'll use your old part #3 and the metal half that holds the ignition on so no big deal.
I'm just confused because from what i hear you have everything you need...just cut a groove in the head of the "pressed bolt" and unscrew. Then install new lock cylinder and assemble as shown in the pic.
PS - it's a lot easier to do with the column out of the car...just 4 bolts under the dash and one pinch bolt down where it goes through the firewall...
