Help with driver side window
Howdy all,
I'm new to this list. Hopefully the experience of the folks here will be able to help me out.
I have a '97 Accord Coupe. Today, I closed the driver side door, and the glass, which was fully raised, dropped about halfway down. I have electric windows. The switch will lower the window, but not raise it. I got the door panel off, but I don't see anything loose or broken inside. The motor makes a bit of a grinding sound when I try to lower the glass.
I has this happen once before with the same window, but the car was under warranty then, so I just dropped it off at the dealer, and they took care of it. I'm not afraid to work on my own cars (I have a '69 Austin-Healey I've rebuilt) so getting it fixed shouldn't be a problem.
I searched back through the archives, and found a lot of postings on the problems of Accord windows, but I didn't see anything similar to mine, where the window just dropped all at once when closing a door. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

i had the same thing happen on my 94. i was busy that night and it was supposed to rain so i had my dad look at it and dont know exactly what happened, but basically what i figured out is that the cable that is responsible for bringing the window up/holding it in place broke, but the cable that allows it to go down is still in tact....i wish i could give you more information, but when it was explained to me i was very confused, so take this for what its worth

Yep, that's exactly what it was. The cable looks like a brake or derailleur cable one bicycles, and one of them was flopping around inside the door. Took about an hour to replace, delayed a couple of times by some Texas thunderstorms
Thanks for the help!
