need help wiring up a switch
ok i did a search no luck... i need some help/advice with electrical problem. i have an 91 ef(if that matters) and my radiator fan wouldnt come on all of a sudden (maybe a relay)so i would over heat, and i dont know much about electrical work so i had my friend wire up my ac and rad. fan to come on when i start the car (but i have it so that it stays on when the car is on) but i wanna hook up a switch so i can turn the fans on and off. so this is what i need help with i have a 3 "prong" switch: power, acc.,grd and what i did was cut the power and groung wires from the fans and i hooked the switch up, by hooking up the power wire to the switch to where it runs "through: the "prong" and i did the same with the ground wire. when i tested everything the fans would stay on only (like they did before) and now the lil switch lights up(and i dont want the acc light to be hooked up....please help sorry for all the reading but i dont have any pics so i wanted to explain it the best i could thanks
Sounds like your thermo swithc died.
It's a comon problem.

You will find the thermo switch on the back of the motor near the oil filter (assuming you are running the stock engine. You didn't say.)
The thermo switch is covered by a rubber boot and has 2 wires coming out of it.
One wire runs to the relay/fan and then other goes to ground.
You can hook these two wires together and turn your car on.
If the fan comes on then your thermo switch is the bad part.
If that's the case, then you can run your manual switch off one of those wires.
First, locate the wire that goes to the fan/relay. (It's yellow with a green stripe in the diagram, but do the following to make sure).
You can take a jumper wire and hook one end to chassis ground and put the other end into one of the 2 wires that came off the thermo switch.
Turn the car on.
If the fan comes on then you found the correct wire.
If the fan doesn't come on turn the car off and put the jumper wire into the other senor wire and try again.
Inside the car take a short piece of wire that is the same gauge or a little lager than the wires on the thermo switch.
Wire one end to your manual switch and the other end to chassis ground.
Take another length of wire and hook one end to the other pin on your manual switch.
Run the wire into the engine compartment.
Hook the other end to the thermo switch wire you locate in the previous paragraph.
All done!

ok i did the switch i got it to work ran the wires to the inside of my car but now i have a concern when i turn the switch on its= starts to get real hot (the switch and the wires) why does it heat up? can i do anything to fix that? and is that safe???
Ya you probably got too low of an amperage of a switch. I dont know how many amps the fan uses but just make sure you have a decent amperage switch.

I just took the two wires from the thermo switch and twisted them together solder heatshrink and walla instant turn on when you have the car in the on/run position. turns off when you turn the car off. Works pretty well. Now if I could just get the fuel injectors to work....
see the problem is i dont want the fans runnin all the time! i had it that way at 1st (thanks to the help of streetdreams02) but it started to bug me ALOT and thats why i need a safe workin switch to turn the fans on when my car temp starts to rise
