Wow, weird problem. Spedometer, tachometer, wipers, temp and fuel gauge don't work.
This question concerns an EM1
Ok, I have a question for you electrical gurus out there.
My spedometer quit working on me. Well, actually the whole cluster. Spedo, tach, temp, fuel...all of 'em. The cluster still lights up but the needles don't move. The wipers don't have an intermitent setting anymore. If I click them to the int. setting they don't do anything. If I pull back to mist the wipers used to come on for about 4 or 5 wipes....no more. I checked fuses and they all seem to be good.
Anybody ever run into this problem? I'm open to suggestions on what to check.

I had the same problem about two months ago. I checked all the fuses and stuff and I still couldn't find anything wrong. Then I rechecked the fuses and it turned out I missed one.
Re-check the fuses. It might not be the problem but you're gonna kick yourself if it is. I know I did.

Which ground wire are you talking about? Can you give me a guesstimate on the area of the dash I should be looking at? Thanks.

Which fuse was it you found blown? Because the fuse that controls the lighting is good. Obviously since I still have lights. Just the needles don't move.

Strangely enough, it was the back up light fuse that caused it. Do you have an auto tranny or manual. I have an auto and it locked in park too and I had to manually unlock it. If you have an auto and this is happening then this is probably your problem.
Every signal you mention shares G401 and Fuse 25 (under dash).
One thing to keep in mind too - there is a rack of **** also grounded through G401 - the Helms indicates everything grounded through G402 is also grounded through G401 - what I'm getting at is, it really seems you've got a blown fuse as the problem is localized to your cluster and not everything else sharing this ground spot.

I'm looking through the pdf helms as we speak. Pain in the *** to scoll through the thousands of pages. I actually just got off the phone with helminc and placed an order for the paper version of the book. $69 isn't too horrible.
Anyway, I'm going to go fuse hunting again. I'll let you guys know what comes of it.

Whenver something in your car stops working, check ALL of the fuses, not just the ones you think pertain to the problem. Keep in mind that most of the time there are fuses under the hood as well as inside the car.
I would bet money that this is a blown fuse.

::Update::
Well, my gauges are working again. There was a black wire that came undone from it's plug. It was the center blue plug that goes to the gauge cluster. I found it by accident. I actually got pissed and shoved the plugs back into the hole after getting pissed I couldn't find anything. Then this little black wire with a pin on the end pops up. I go to look up what the pins on those 2 big blue plugs are supposed to look like and low and behold there was the damn black wire.
Thanks for all the pointers guys.
