Default Will SRP Pistons handle 20psi?!

Well here is the info.
We are building a b16a2 for boost for our project car. The block will be done by GE, and head work done by portflow. We plan on running atleast 20psi of boost with a Speed Pro engine managment system.

My friend from JE sent me some pistons for our car and I noticed they are SRP Pistons. Will these not work because of their high silicon content. Should I return them or get a different set of pistons?

They are still much more durable than stockers.. I think with proper tuning, some coating, and tons of hours on the dyno, you should be able to do it.

With out mentioning any names, I know of two particualar racers who use SRP pistons at 26-30psi.

Hey Andy,
I personally would never use SRP or JE pistons. My experience with them isn't that great. Their piston designs are aweful especially on the VTEC pistons with the larger valve reliefs.

If you take a look at them (even new ones) you'll notice that they cut the intake valive reliefs right up to the edge of the piston, leaving an almost knifed edge right where the piston meets the cylinder wall.

There is not enough material there to absorb/dissapate the heat and you start a thermal meltdown in that area, not to mention its an easy source for a hot spot to generate.

I'll send you some pics of our junked SRP pistons. You'll notice exactly how they failed, and there's no doubt it was from the 'knifed' edge. It was eaten away and melted.

If you look at say Weisco pistons for example, there is plenty of meat surrounding the entire valve relief.

HTH

JG Engine Dynamics sells their pro-series short blocks with SRPs,javier said they'll handle 30psi with right tune..and hell,my stockers held at 14psi and ive seen some guys boost as hi as 20psi on B's with stock pistons.

The piston isn't going to melt if the motor is tuned right... right being the key word.

Then either something was not properly installed ... or it was not tuned right. Many people have had much success with the SRP and JE pistons at boost levels far beyond what your integra was running. And their motors are not blown.

Viren uses JE 10.0:1 slugs at 30psi in his race motors, so I do not put much weight in your valve relief argument.

i boost 30psi + extra shot of nos egt reads around 720C with air fuel right around 11.5 which is really rich pushing over 600hp with speed pro with closed loop enabled -25% correctino

Well, GT3 may have tuned it right.. he might just happen to be that *small* percent of SRP users to have had problems. But the majority of people using SRP or JE have had great success.
