Default 1997 prelude a/c

Hot weather the other day and it sounded like the high pressure line on the the a/c ruptured (big clound of refridgerant). However, the a/c still works. Is there a safety valve on the system that releases excess pressure or do I have a leak in the system now?

There is a relief valve by the compressor that blows off when there is excess pressure.
