Default Don't think people will follow your instructions...

When you are letting them drive your car for the day, especially without you around. Heres the story: I let a friend of mine use my 91 turbocharged b16a1 CRX Si to get to work. It has a Vafc for fuel help with 450's, so any high rpm driving where throttle is not being applied in large quantity creates a very undesireably rich situation. Those with the hack know what the bad feeling is like to take the car above 4k without full or half throttle at least.

So I tell him, don't take the car above 4k rpms unless your going to give it good throttle to provide an acceptable air/fuel ratio. I also told him to keep it off the highway.

Well, I get the car back and he tells me it threw a check engine light while driving it. I ask what he was doing to which he replies "I was crusing at 60mph on the highway in 5th gear and floored it......it got to 85mph and then stopped accelerating and the check engine light came on." Great. So after interrogating him he claims that no "funny noises" or pings happened and that it simply just lost all power at 85mph when the check engine light came on. I pulled the codes and they read 15 for ignition output signal and 4 for crankshaft postion signal. I reset the ecu and took it for a drive. The car seems to drive fine as far as I can tell so far, but the check engine light came back on while testing it out. This time it was a code 8 only for Top dead center signal.

So I had code 15 and 4, and now got an 8 as well. The car seems to drive fine....... but the check engine light comes on for these errors now. I don't have my helms, and the online version I was looking at I could not find the trouble shooting section for the TDC sensor on the dizzy, it said section 5-5 but I couldn't find it. Anyways, if any of you have a guess as to what happened possibly or you want to post up the helms troubleshooting section on the TDC or crankshaft signal it would be appreciated. I will update tomorrow with compression check results and if I got a chance to test the ignitor and relating equipment.

Never experienced dizzy codes b4, so I dont have any good advice other than pop your cap off, and give it a good visual inspection. Have seen the wires that clip onto the igniter cause wierd problems when 'loose'.

I have, however, recently experienced the 'let someone else drive your car' thing with interesting results. I let my brother take it to go pick a friend up. My instructions were "Its hot out, so no more than 2-3 rips in a row. Oh, and theres nothing down low, so if you rip it, dont be a *****. Take it all the way to 8500. Keep an eye on the temp, k."
CRX B16 SC61
He returned an hour later. Said it got hot, and the top of the radiator cracked and spewed coolant.
Late nignt interogation revealed...he was topping out 4th on a LS tranny on the freeway. It was in the 90's that day....
Everything turned out fine though, just had to put in a new radiator.

-end of thread jacking story-

lol...

I have one of those stories as well. I was out at the street races and I let my buddy drive my car. He broke an axle doing some e-braking 360 degree burnouts in his car a few weeks before, so I told him "no e-braking 360 degree burnouts!". So what does he do? E-braking figure 8 burnouts lol.

My sis was good to my car when I let her borrow it.

She said she did like the way it moves when she pulle dout in front of a big truck, though... I cringed thinking she had gotten rear ended, but she said the car just took off like a scalded dog.

Yeah, i'm thinking timing belt as well, two of those 3 codes are for motor position, make sure you didn't jump a few teeth, the car will still run very strong even with as much as 3 teeth off

Well I checked my timing belt and its fine, no teeth are off. I did a compression check and I get 200 across the board so thats good at least. Now I only get code 8 for the most part. It throws the code only when doing a hard boost run. Hmm.

3 teeth off! Your car would run like crap with it messed up that bad. At least I know my sohc would. If I set my zex cam a couple degrees different than where it needs to be it will feel like ***.

Nah. Never let anyone borrow your modified car. We tend to remove a lot of the "idiot proofing" from the cars, like rev limiters, governors, and such, then do other things that will make the car run bad or be damaged if a certain condition is met.

You can't really break an OEM car. But would I let someone borrow MY car? Hell no. It would come back with broken axles, a burnt clutch, a fucked gearbox and probably overheating.

I just replaced my distributor about 5,000 miles ago with a new one from distributor king when my old ones bearings went bad. That would suck if this new one is already having electrical issues.

... which was a ZC, right? You don't kick dizzy codes with gears misaligned when all three sensors are operated off the same cam and therefore in alignment.

Bad wiring, or time for a new distributor.

The last time I let someone borrow my car it was my girlfriend. She got t-boned from some lady who ran a red light. Thank god she was ok, and after $8000 dollars damage, and months later the car was repaired. No one has driven my car except me since. That was 3 years ago....

I hope you figure out what's wrong with your car. Good luck
