Default D16 Final Drive

I am considering a final drive for my H4 Del Sol. I was wondering what experience has been had with different ratios and companies. Also, where did you get it from or where have you seen them? There seems to be a shortage of companies selling them for single cam engines.

I'm running a SRR 4.9 in my 95 hatch (street car).

The change in FD made a huge difference in the acceleration of the car. It tops out at about 120mph.

I use the 4.7 SRR final drive sourced from Will at exospeed.com in my 95 civic ex. (Thanks Will!) Installation was straightforward and it works flawlessly. Very happy. Just please tell him Lyonel sent ya!

BTW, they are also an excellent source for Bisimoto headers and anything else you need for your 1.6 sohc...

I actually just threw in my 4.9 FD Saturday after work. Took about 2 1/2 hours to drop the tranny, install, and get it running again.

By far the best mod I have done to the drivetrain. The D series lacks BIG time in the gearing category. We put down the same, if not better torque numbers than a B16, but their superior gearing will always get us...not anymore

It's not just about the gearing. Unless your D can rev to 8500-9000RPM, Bs will still own. While you grab the next taller gear and sacrifice torque multiplication for speed, they still got another 1500-2000rpm of pull left...

This is what I will be installing in my H4 90 Si. Unfortunately AFAIK it will not work in the hydro trans cases. Everyone that I know with a 92-00 Hydro D-Series trans run one of the SRR variants.

Jim - who is still patiently waiting the arrival of his coated Bisi header. :sigh: One day...........

Unfortunately, the B16's still own us H4 D16's even with the FD. However, if you build an H1 D16 to the full letter of the rules, then the above statement doesn't necessarily hold.

oh boy...a D16 H1 car? That would be a sight to see...especially if it wins.

This D16 actually raced and was doing quite well, like 3rd place for awhile until an accident occured. However, this particular D16 was not totally built to the letter of the rules, so there is some more ponies in that single cam. It should be interesting to see when this beast gets up to speed.
