Default Catback worth it? <<<NOOB

Hey guys is the purchasing a full catback system better than getting an exhuast and having the shop do a custom piping? I mean is there any noticeable gain differences? Cause a full catback system would cost me bout $400-450, but my friend is gonna give me his exhuast and i was thinking bout bring to a muffler shop and just do custom piping. Also does the exhaust matter? Cause i read that it only makes a difference in sound and appearance.

you won't notice a huge difference if anything at all but its worth it to have some sort of exhaust setup if you plan on further modding your car... IMO if your buddy is gonna hook you up with his exhaust take it to the shop and see what they can do rather than buying a 500 dollar new setup.

Yes you will notice a difference if you know what you ur feeling..... my car felt alot better in the high RPMs with my Greddy EVo catback and highflo cat... i got it used for $250 the guy had it on his car for like 1 month and it was mint shape.... you can find deals and I would honestly save and get a real catback... these company's know what they are making and have been doing so usually for a long time... they are making good gains with their setups and thats why we the consumers buy them.

Read it in clubsi and some other forums, ppl just stating that the exhuast doesnt make that much a difference. now Im not talking about the Cat at all, just the catback. They just stated that the piping makes a difference, but not the type of exhaust.

Well i can believe that. lots of people keep their stock exhaust and just get piping.

yeah but still if you have ever looked at a stock muffler there are chambers that spread through it which in turns makes it quieter but also makes it more restrictive. Where as after markets are usually straight through design with some sort of baffeling etc...

had the greddy evo for about 3 years. got rid of it b/c the interior of the exhaust was deteriorating. now i have the stock exhast. I love having the stock exhaust, it's quiet and i have not felt any power loss.

If i could do it all over again, i would've gotten a header first instead of the exhaust.

+ i wouldn't have gotten hassled by the cops...

How can you not feel any power loss?? If you go from a 2 1/4 or 2 1/5 to under a 2inch and stock muffler you should be feeling a loss. Especailly up top, judging from your sig you have a B16 EK SI now wouldnt the B16 really benefit from an exhaust seeing as it makes no power until the upper RPM's where an exhaust would do wonders for you? Also whats the header worth if the actual exhaust cant exit any faster because it is restricted also....

Example: The engine is releasing exhaust through the header, now the header is larger so the engine can release it easier/faster but the exhaust cannot not go anywhere else faster etc after it leaves the header because of the stock exhaust therefore not using the header to all of its potential..

Just speaking from personal experience. I did not notice a power loss. I realize that going from a 2.5" exhaust system to a 1.75" exhaust system should bring about some power loss, but to tell you honestly i did not feel much of a power increase from the exhaust when it was put on in the first place. The only thing that did feel like it added power was the intake that i put on (aem cai).

IMO the exhaust brought a nice tone out the back and a nice look, but as for power it would've done alot better if i had some engine mods (which i don't). The exhaust would add more power with more power coming from the engine, but i'm pretty much stock in that dept.

Ic i..... as for the exhaust itself its one of the few IMO that actually gives a nice sound to the Civic... its not a totally raspy crap sound... it gives it a deeper sound until up top when it lets the killer bee buzzzz sound out hehehehehe..... but also the EVO has been redesigned now so that the whole exhaust is now stainless so it detiorating should not be a problem anymore...

Some crush benders don't crinkle the pipe on the inside of the bend. The shop that did mine it was still smooth but like notched in kinda.
