Default 3rd gear grinding

If third gear grinds sometimes when you go into does that mean that the tranys going bad because someone told me it could be the syncros. Or would it be that the clutch is going bad.

Did you depress the clutch all the way? Sounds elementary, but solves a good bit of tranny grinding problems.

This may be a stupid question but how much would it be to replace the syncros or could i just take them out and just double clutch all the time.

double clutching is for dump trucks. What fluid are you running in the trans?

i dont know i just got the car and it is a project car. It is wrecked as you can see in the sig and i havent really got it on the road yet to see if it really does grind. The previous owner told me that it did this occasionally. If I would switch to a oil like redline oil would that stop it for now.

heres how to test synchros.. well this is how the tranny guy showed me.. it works tho cuz we tested it on my friends b-series tranny
his 3rd grinded too everytime but the test is u downshift from 4th to 3rd.. if it doesnt grind downshifting from 4th then its your slider... if its the synchro, then it will grind equally down and up shifting...

My trans when I got it would grind 3rd gear from 4000 rpms and up no matter how I shifted. I switched to gm syncromesh (buy at any gm dealer) and it fixed the problem. It doesn't seem to work right away. After about 700 miles with it in I noticed much smoother shifts all around and the grinding completely stopped. I now shift at 8700 and it doesn't grind at all. I can't say enough good things about gm syncromesh, I think it saved my trans.
