In this picture, the line that goes from the intake manifold to the middle of the valve cover....is it just any old vacuum line, or does it have a specific purpose? I know b16s dont have this, so im kinda curious.

And what does the PCV valve do?

Would this be a suitable vac line for a BOV?

I think maybe to vent the crankcase.. i know most people do it with b20/vtec and drill a hole in the b16 valve cover to vent it

The plastic 'elbow' on the valvecover end of that hose IS the PCV valve. Lots of B-series engines have the valve located on a breather box on the backside of the block (Underneath the intake manifold). So on the B16 or whatever, YES IT DOES HAVE THAT. It's just located differently.

The PCV valve lets the manifold vacuum suck air out of the crankcase. Then fresh air is sucked in thru the breather hose. The stock breather hose comes from the intake tube, but in the picture it's been replaced by a filter (just above the oil fill cap).

So that line should work as a vacuum source for a bov, boost gauge etc right?

Don't use that for a vacuum source! The line from the valve cover can get oil going thru it.

Hence why its called a Pressure Control Valve.

Run the BOV off the brake booster.

Yeah, I always call it one or the other, depends on my memory!

Either way, I wouldn't connect anything to it, cause of the likelyhood of oily air flowing thru it.

Have you taken off a breather line?? The air comes out of the engine. Air enters the engine from the combustion chamber, caused by blow-by pased the pistion rings. There is no airflow from the manifold into the valve cover. Air flows from both the crankcase and valvecover into the intake manifold.

The manifold has lower pressure so it flows from the engine, thru the PCV valve, into the manifold. It's the breather line that reverses flow direction under some conditions. Like when the blowby overwhelms the capacity of the PCV line.
