Default Civic Won't Start in the Morning but works at night.

Hi, I have a manual transmission 1990 Civic LX with 172K miles. The car has been running fine, then out of the blue it wouldn't start last Thursday morning. The engine cranks but the car wouldn't start. However when I came home from work arournd 7:00 that night the car started with no problem. I had the same problem on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and this morning. Each day, the car starts finr at night. What could this be? Thank you. Jim.

My 2000 cx has the same problem, usually it starts, it didn't start Tuesday and Sunday morning, however I have over 600 hundred thousand kilometers on it, could it be the fuel filter? the weather has been fine.

I am in NYC. It has been hot, if you consider mid 80s hot. Still think I should check the fuel filter? What do you mean by check it? Do you mean replace it, and how can I tell if it is the fuel filter.

well replace it, its a $20 part and cant hurt.....

but 80's is hot enough to cause starting problems....it can make the fuel in the lines go watery and the car wont start...but as it cools down the car will start

Thanks, I'll try and replace the fuel filter. Does anyone know where I can get information on how to change a fuel filter?

my CRX does that.... do a test.... leave your window cracked .... if it starts its your main relay.... it gets hot and doesnt like working.... thats a $50 fix from the honda dealer.... well from the parts counter.

You can buy a filter at an auto parts store.

mr chaos I don't have a picture but it looks like any regular balck civic except for the insects pasted on the front bumper.

I just replaced the rad, the orginal one is responsible for the death of tens of thousands of insects.

Also listen for the fuel pump to come on when you turn the key to the ON position.
If it doesn't come on then it's most likely the main relay.
