Best Tires of the Expo?
So while watching the "battle.wmv" video I was wondering; did anyone notice certain tires doing better at the Expo than others? I figured since we had so many Type-R's there it would be a good, controlled, place to compare what tires did really well on the track. I think this is a good question since we do have a good number of people who track their street car and use the same tires.
Comments/Observations anyone?

Azenis tend to get greasy during hot days after a few laps.
I used to run on Kumhos, and are alot more forgiving at driver's errors. However, you don't learn much on them as you muscle away from your own mistakes instead of learning them.
During the Expo, the Azenis is actually quite good due to cooler tempertures compare to couple weekends ago at summit point.
I will probably stay on Azenis for the near future since couple sec off my lap time is well worth the convenience of changing tires and carrying them around

I ran on the azenis I drove to the track (15x7 rims). They've had 5 lapping days & ~8,000 miles.
Edwin was the only person to pass me in Advanced Group. I just can't justify the extra expense for another ~.5 sec a lap. I did notice Doug (baby nsx) could transition a little better on the cross-overs with RA-1s. **Note to self: find out how many "***** vs nuts" doug used trying to get away from me @ beaver??

Ditto. It's funny to see Azenis at autocross events mounted on '87 IROC Camaros.

ran the 205/50 on stock wheel combo. I must say, I was definately suprised at how much grip they had. They got a bit greasey after they warmed up, but that just forced me to take the right line and be smoother... They also seemed to break away very progressively, and were nice and forgiving for a nOOb like myself
Wouldn't want to drive em on the street though - they are loud as FAWk in an ITR.

I was running on a new set of RA1s which didn't start working well until the 3rd session... Still, I can see now why I was quicker then most through the infield bit. The RA1s grip advantage over the Azenis was clear; however the azenis did show great grip for a street tire.
Edwin was riding on a set of RA1s which were more or less at the optimum tread deapth which shows clearly in his blinding pace.

That's another reason why I can't justify making the jump up from azenis. No heat cycling/shaving etc..
...They just work

R compounds > Street tires
In terms of Grip, and time for them to get greasy.

Lance, what kinda tread did they have before tracking? They (Kuhmo MX's) do not like autox or track at anything more than ~half depth. They are excellent after that though, I prefer them to the Azenis for sure in Atlanta temps. I was also very pleased with them at Beaver even though it was relatively cool.

They're no worse than the Falkens. I cant say if they are better or not. I got to drive home in one hell of a thunderstorm after I mounted them (40 minute drive to mount them myself).

I'm pretty sure his are full tread depth. I can also attest how they suck at that depth, but i expected that. I broke them in at Talladega
, that track sure knows how to eat up tire depth.

MX have terrible sidewalls... serious roll. Very scary and unsettling.
I had the same experience as Dave and Lance: although I drove my 800-mile old MX at lil' talladega at about 7/10's and they came off looking as if I ran a 300 mile enduro.
Great street tires, but even then the softness of the sidewall makes me wonder why they are so highly touted for track use.
