Okay, I just got my license like 2-3 months ago. So, I decided it is time to get a car. After days of non-stop looking I found nothing, until my uncle called me and told me that he found a Honda Civic for sale...

The only bad thing about the car, is it is "gray". It kind of looks like a gray with a tint of purple, hard to explain. So, I was thinking about getting a paint job soon. But, after that I was wondering what kind of performance parts have any of you put in your Civics? It has the 1.5L / 91 engine which puts out 102 horses and 98 torque. This is rather low, I would be very happy if I could get this up to maybe 120-130. The only problem is I do not really know how to work on cars, and I do not want to put VERY expensive parts in the car. So, it would be great if any of these parts were easy to install. don't mod the stock engine...save up for a swap...you'll be happier in the long run

 

I would suggest not modding it at all, unless you plan on making it very quick (respectable). Which I don't think you are ready for as you are only 16. Do you have a job yet?

I will have a job as soon as I get the car. Might be working on the side with my cousin at his shop too, so he could probably help me/teach me.

 

you may say that now, but if you put some little mods on the car and it gets a little faster, you'll eventually want more and more.

thats what i said when i got my civic. i spent money and time modding the stock dx motor and thought i would never want a swap. it was a waste of money. 6 months later i got an ls swap and then eventually turbocharged it. now i have a gsr swap with a zex kit.

if your sure your not going to want to get a swap, the most you can probably do is just intake, header, and exhaust. its a 4 door so its probably heavy.

 

I thought it would be heavier too, but I found a link (auto.consumerguide.com), turns out the 4 door civic is lighter than the 2 door coupe, but a little heavier than the 2 door hatchback. Not sure how accurate this is?

 

I don't know how accurate that is, but it is JMHO that you should eather get a swap and do some hardcore mods to it or leave it stock. Eather that or consiter another car altogether. If I were you I would get this car and leave it stock. Then save up (enjoy the economy of a stock civic) and get a motorcycle. (Starter bike, no 600 SS's)

no matter what you get it will get fucked up you really at your age should buy a junker and drive it until you can buy something nice because...i take it you will be driving it to school where there will be several other drivers with very little driving experience and it will get hit...bumped whatever...im 19 and have had over 6 cars every one that i had while i was in high school got some kind of body damage by other drivers.....it will get old especially since you dont have a good paying job and you could go threw insurance to fix what happens but your young and your insurance will go threw the roof...oh and paint jobs are expensive...good ones at least

 

basic i/h/e, but thatll run you at least 400 for used stuff. for 400 youd be in the ballpark for a d16z6 wouldnt you? thats like 127 hp, which is right in your range.

modding cars are expensive. if you're not looking into spending money, then don't mod the car. just keep it as a daily driver for a while (long while) until you can get enough money into buying a new car. stay away from modding cars. you'll be broke. its not the way to go.

i drive a 1995 civic Esi too and all i have is just a K& N air filter and one of those turbo stormy kits , i really enjoy the fuel economy. heck i use it more than i use my 2004 honda CRV. IMHO the EG 4 door sedan is light and nimble u can easily squeeze out speed and fuel economy out of it. unlike my 04 CRV it drinks fuel like water i get only 6 km/liter whereas in my 1995 civic esi i get 9 to 10 km/liter which is good fuel economy

Dont mod that motor...save for a swap. Jus intake it or put on any exhaust and save. B, H, K series all worth it.

 

d16z6 would be the most cost efficient imo. no need for motor mounts like if you swapped another series motor. they are CHEAP. its probably the easiest cept maybe the ls engine since you wouldnt have to wire vtec. ls engine would also be a great choice. both of these are at the bottom of the price ladder compared to the b16, b18, h22, or k20. they offer a great step up, seeing as how youre new you can start a lil ways and see what happens

u should buy a eg with a lot of miles on a stock engine, like one that will bearly run for real cheap then do a swap. i wish i would have but im bout half way to gettin a swap . by this time next yr ill hopefully have it
