Default Why is it

OK i have ZC Turbo running very well, no complaints except the fact when i drive on the highway for a long period of time my temp gauge goes up at about 140 KM/h, but if i turn my heater on it goes down slowly, now i don't know much about turbos, but it was really hot here today and when i hit a higher elevation the temp went back to normal after i slow down some aswell, now also i do not have a thermostat in my car right now, can this cause problems.???

appreciate feed back on this problem thanx.....

Not having a thermo at all would seem to have something to do with this. I would think that the temp is rising because the coolant isnt cooling down much, or at all.

Agreed. The thermostat slows the water down so it stays in the radiator to cool down. If the water doesn't spend enough time in the radiator then it won't have time to cool down.

cooling problems suck. There always hit and miss.... at BEST you need a new rad, better off getting an all aluminum rad. at worst. your head gasket is toast.

You should always use a thermostat. Not having a thermostat causes too much cooling. "Water doesnt have enough time in the radiator" is a common sense answer that is NOT correct.

On to your real problem...

Turning on your heater and it helps your problem seems to indicate that your radiator is not working correctly and its capacity for heat transfer is lowered. Hows your air flow to the radiator? Idle the car until its good and warm and then feel your radiator for any hot or cool spots. A cool spot indicates that its clogged.

If you havent flushed your radiator recently I would do that. Its cheap and easy to do at home. This could help your problem also if your coolant is very dirty it gives you an indication that maybe clogging is your problem.

If it was your water pump then turning on the heater probably wouldnt help you.

Are you losing any coolant?

It is possible that you have a weak water pump but since its such a pain to change out you usually trying to figure out whats wrong first before changing it.

ok so we did the timing belt and water pump and .................................................. .......well lets just say GOD DAMN IT.....
it still heats up only under boost, we did a full engine flush and all......could it be possible my head gasket has a bad spot, there is no sign of oilin the coolant or vise versa...but i was told maybe air is leaking passed the gasket somewhere...any one have any ideas.???

if it were a head gasket you would be burning white smoke, you would see it, you would also have some signs of oil in your coolant, i am leaning towards a clogged radiator, not even a flush can help it if its too far gone

Do you have a front mount I/C with a stock radiator? If so, that is probably what is causing you to temp rise. The stock radiator needs room to breath. 1 core radiators suck on turbo cars.

I know that you would be shooting out white smoke if you have a blown head gasket or a faulity one. However, IF you still want to check it out, pull off your header/exahust manifold, then look at your exhaust ports. If you were<U> "typically</U>" they will be quite clean and nice looking due to the steam.

aight kidz,
well it was that the Rad wasn't gettin enough air flow, so i had to modify my rebar and front bumper to let more air through, all that trouble because of my rebar and front bumper but it's all cool, thanx for all the Feedback...
