I actually did a search of those words in both the archives and recent and got nothing. I learned manual on my civic and I have grinded it quite a few times. I am doing the MTF fluid soon, where can I get one of these locally?

that is where I got mine. they have saved my butt bigtime, if it weren't for those drain plugs I would have had a serious problem with my LS when a couple of nuts came loose and I had to fix them all.

now my LS is as good as new because the plust allowed me to see that there was a problem

 

is there any cheaper plugs that I can get locally? Also the manual calls for liquid gasket to be applyed to the drain bolt threads, where can I get this? Will the drain bolt magnets be on there untill the next MTF change, will they replace the bolt? Is liquid gasket required?

I have never use liquid gasket (hondabond ht) and yes the drain plug magnets replace your entire drain plug

you MIGHT be able to find a magnetic drain plug at Auto Zone

also you must realize that the price of spoon plugs includes TWO plugs (one for the oil pan and one for the transmission drain plug)

 

could you show me a link to where you can actually buy the drain plugs, I couldent find one. I went to autozone and red rooster and they did not carry the magnetic drain bolt for the MTF.

They may not be blingin Spoon plugs.. but you can go to Pep Boys and get some no name magnetic drain plugs for about $5-7.

you had better make shure that the magnet is short enough so that you don't have problems with it touching your diff.

Yep, Checkers had a magnetic oil drain for ~$7

 

so those are for the tranny right?

 

I didn't find one for a tranny, but if you got metal in the tranny then bad things are coming

 

I will bet money that the pep boys junk will not have a drain plug that has a magnes NEARLY as stron as a Spoon plug....I would even go as far to say that the one on ebay couldn't even touch the spoon in magnetic strength

Does magnetic really make a big difference for oil and tranny?

 

I read a thread about a guy who had a magnetic plug for his tranny and when he took it out it was covered in shards, I would like to take out whatever shards I have caused by grinding shifts (I am learning).

for your info , MTF stands for manual transmission fluid , and if your asking if they make a horsepower difference , hell no they dont . but they do save your motor and tranny from metal shavings

 

the magnetic plugs you get at auto stores are not very magnetic... i could barely get any metal to stay on it...
however r and d and the ones on ebay look much stronger

 

I have one from eBay and one from Checkers.
Maybe I should do a test? I think I will !

anyway, a checkers one should be fine, I'll see if they even have it. what about liquid gasket, where can I get that?

 

I hav ethe spoon plugs and they are super strong! I have picked up tools with them...socket wrenches, plyers, etc... so i think they do a great job at attracting all the shavings that your fluid may have in it. I know after my first change the tranny plug was covered in shavings cause it pulled out all the shavings that have stayed in there for since when i got the car. So get the strongest magnet you can get...its worth it!!

 

the ebay ones are a waste IMO , when you can get both spoon ones for like 15 dollars more. not saving any money on those ebay ones.

 

do teh D series tranny's not come with a magnet in teh tranny? i know every H or F series tranny i cracked open had a large magnet built into the bottom of teh case, so a drain plug with a magnet is not even needed.
