Latest clutch symptom... Does anyone else's car do this?
Okay. Aside from the assortment of vibrations, rumblings and clicks I am experiencing, I have a new symptom to get an opinion on:
Normally, as I accelerate through the gears, I dont take my foot all the way off the clutch pedal. This is normal I'm sure. But, on several occasions, as my foot is resting lightly on the pedal, at the top of it's travel, waiting to press it for the next shift, I will feel the pedal pull away from my foot a few inches. It just drops a bit and stays there. It is very strange. I don't know how else to explain it...
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
-Floyd

Hmm, I'm not sure but I always thought that you shouldnt ever rest your foot on the clutch pedal. Dont know if thats causing anything there for ya, cuz I dont do it and still get some strange clicking sounds from it.
from what I have been told, riding your clutch (which is resting your foot on it or slightly pushing it) is one of the worst things you can do to your clutch. Maybe your clutch is experiencing premature wear because of this.
Your pedal should have a return spring on it ... check to see if it is broken, stretched..etc..
With this return spring your pedal should have sufficient tension at the top of it's travel not to sink..
If the spring is weak, it will let the pedal go down easily ( little pedal pressure )
until the free play is taken up...
Otherwise some one has stolen your hydraulic set up and put a mechanical linkage in there and the linkage is moving around with your engine..
( those of you who have never owned a big block Dodge will probably never have experienced this heh heh )
Third option is that one of the clutch cyl's is worn in the upper part of the bore..
Peel back the dust caps and look for fluid.. you should see NONE is all is a ok.

Oh and about the foot on the clutch thing... Light pressure won't hurt the disc or pressure plate, but it will keep the throw out bearing in contact with the plate diaphram fingers, so it will constantly be spinning..Of all of your clutdh components this is the one with the highest likelyhood of making wierd noises and causing a vibration in your pedal as it wears out... so the nicer you are to it the longer it will be trouble free..
Besides.. your left foot should be braced on the dead pedal to help you keep your butt in the seat, and minimize your steering inputs ( you know.. as a steering platform your body isn't much use being thrown about the car..).
Might as well get used to doing it right... heh heh
This reminds me of a question I was meaning to ask (Hope you dont mind me using this thread
). On all other 5 speed cars I have driven, the clutch catches in the middle of the pedal travel. However, with my Type R, the clutch catches at nearly the top of the travel (infact, i really only have to depress the pedal about an inch and a half before the clutch disengages). Is this normal (i.e. another feature of the Type R to allow faster shifts
) or could there be something wrong?
Thanks,
Alex

The point where the clutch pedal actually engages is adjustable, and will change as the clutch gets worn out.
When I rest my foot on the pedal it is just taking up the "slack" to where I can feel a slight resistance. Maybe I will have to get out of that habit.
And, yes, I also suspect the throw-out bearing, but the dealer I have taken it to isn't convinced. The usual response is, "Yeah, those Type-R's are noisy cars." I'm about ready to take it back and blow up on them. Every day that goes by and I hear these noises, and feel these weirdnesses, I get more and more ticked.

I suggest you take it to Pohanka Acura and ask for Lt. Dan. All that weird stuff going on with my clutch is gone. Maybe it's because they replaced the whole freaking thing.
Anyway, he was really helpful, understanding, and he did a GREAT job on my car. I think he's dealt with a lot of ITRs and he knows what sounds should and should not be there. He's got the late shift so he's there starting at 4pm, I think.

my car seems to make a squeakish noise from the transmission...its consistent with engine speed...rev it up and it squeaks faster...when i rest my foot on the clutch pedal a bit, it pushes down a bit but the squeaking stops....i can only assume this is my throwout bearing? I have to replace my Master Cylinder (was supposed to get Lt. Dan to work on it, but i was sick last week through the weekend and couldnt make it to his place)...will replacing the master cylinder MAYBE stop it from squeaking?

so how expensive is this part? is it a "wear" part? ...its something the tranny needs to be pulled for? might as well put a LSD in while its off...sigh, more transmission crap.
