'99 Accord V6 - Maint Req'd & Check Engine lights
My fiance bought this car used last year with about 38,000 miles on it. Now it has about 50,000 miles on it.
Are there any simply secrets to try out for either of these two problems? The check engine light has been on for awhile now. We had a service shop look at it (private. not dealer) and they couldn't trace the problem. The error code came out having something to do with emissions, but he tested 3 potential problem areas and found nothing wrong. Any ideas?
The maintenance Required light just came on. Is this just an interval thing to remind you of oil changes/tire rotates and what-not, or is this a legit problem?
Sorry for the dumb question...first Accord we've ever owned. Thanks in advance.

the main't req'd light is simply mileage based. It comes on 7500 miles after you reset it the previous time, and is only a reminder, just as you suspected. To turn it off, hold down the trip meter reset button, turn the key to the "on" position (without cranking the motor), and continue to hold down the reset button. The light should blink, and then turn off after 20-30 seconds.
For the check engine light, see if you can get the actual code, whether it be the number code, or the short description. Autozone will check the codes for free. If you can tell us the specific code, we might be able to narrow down the possibilities for you.

Maint Req'd light is now off. Easy fix. Thank you so much for the hint. Again, first time Accord owner, so thank you again.
I'll stop at an Autozone and get the code. Thanks a ton!
