i found oil in my intake....help..
is that normal or is that bad? while installing my new throttle body i found oil in my intake, is that a normal thing or a bad thing? how the hell did oil get in the first place? and if its bad how can i fix it?
the hose coming off your valve cover is called positive crankcase ventilation and allows blow by gases(oil moisturized air etc...) to reenter the intake tract for emissions purposes; as with the hose from the oil cooler to the intake manifold.
this can be alleveaited (big word) by a oil catch can. thats what they do they filter oil from your pcv to the intake so there is no hot oil reentering your motor.

You can prevent that, by simply yanking off the crankcase hose and sticking on one of those mini-K&N crankcase breathers. And if you have an intake, stick another one on the tube with the protursion for the hose.

From what I heard, an oil catch can is only needed in turbo applications. It's normal for that oil to re-enter the tb and if you do a search, using one of those breather thingies is bad for your engine.

To do it properly you need a catch can.
If you do that little "filter" mod, you'll also be breaking the law.... that tube is there for a reason...
Kinda off subject but along the same lines. I have an oil catch can in my car but it is only attached the the hose comming off of the head cover should I run both lines (crankcase cover and PCV lines) to the oil catch can then run two lines back to to the intake manifold and to the short ram or leavt it the way it is.
wows...this was old, and i didnt car too much for it, but now that ive seen that diagram fo yours sackdz, i think i should invest in the oil catch can now. Thanks for the diagram. how much do those things usually go for anyways?
The flow of air on a b series motor is from the intake into the valve cover, not vice versa. By outting on a breather you are doing NOTHING. Dont believe me? check the flow diagram in your shop manual.
Ok repeat of question but in different mannor. I have a PCV valve and the breather from the head cover. I know what it says in the diagram but which should I be concerned with the PCV valve or the breather when it comes onto the oil catch can.
Forget about the catch can for now. Make sure your PCV valve is working and the hose from it to the intake manifold isn't clogged. The hose at your intake (before the throttle plate) is there to allow fresh air into the crank case by way of the valve cover. It normally shouldn't back flow oil and vapors, but if you have excessive blow by or a clogged PCV valve I suppose it would.
So if I am reading your reply correctly. And everything is working correctly. The all I have to worry about with the oil catch can is the PCV valve. Right?
