Intake..
I got one of those Cold Air Intake systems that come in 3 pieces..well lately it's been raining a lot and I wanted to know if taking off one of the pipes and putting the filter to just the 2 pieces so it would be somewhat of a short ram intake would I have to do anything else? Or just plug and play?
Just plug and play, as long as the two pipe will fit and you don't remove any sensors. It'll also change the tuning length and performance characteristics, but better than sucking in water!
The Cold Air Intake I had was in 2 pieces not 3 *my fault* Anyway, yeah I removed the tube that went down into the bumper and the filter. I then put the filter on the tube that was on my intake manifold and such. The only things i;ve noticed is that the accelerater feels more "stiff" it feels almost like the car is too heavy, almost like it's holding back. I dont know if thats because I've been used to driving it with the "Cold Air" or not. I have noticed that it does pick up a little better. Since i'm not sure how the cars feel with short ram I wanted to know if that was normal.

short rams get better throttle response
and generally speaking you don't lose to much whp (if any) by doing what you did with ur multi-piece intake. The only thing i can think of with the "holding-back" thing is that your car is reaching wide open throttle much quicker due to increased throttle response

I did the same thing. the length of the first half of a CAI is a little longer than that of my old SRI. but the difference is in the size of the pipe. 2.5" for the CAI vs. 3" for the SRI.
so by removing the 2nd half of the CAI, your creating a SRI, that is smaller and longer than a standard SRI. so it's like forcing your car to breathe through a straw. it has a harder time pulling in the same amount of air.
The tuning of an intake is key. different length pipes do well with different diameters. that's why when you took off your lower CAI and moved the filter up, you noticed a difference. because the incoming air into the cylinder doesn't have as much velocity, so you're not getting as much air as before.
I drive with both pieces of my CAI on all the time. if I get worried, I have an AEM bypass valve to put on. but even in rain, just drive senssibly, avoid puddles, and don't drive at WOT. drive like a grand ma. you won't have to worry about hydro-lock or wrecking.

You lost the midrange power "bump" that AEM's are famous for. You don't have that kick anymore, so you're feeling a little loss of power on the street. With the short ram, you might have a bit more top end power, but the midrange isn't as strong now.
