Hey turbo gurus, it seems like a popular choice for an FMU/FPR setup is to use a Walbro/Holley/Bosch etc. inline fuel pump which works great but whines like a mother all day long.

But what about the Walbro high pressure intank fuel pumps?? Aren't those supposed to do the same job while eliminating some of the noise from being intank? It sounds like a great solution to use one of these units w/ a FMU to start and still have the capability to run standalone/piggy-back when the $$ comes around. Anybody w/ insights into this?

Go w/ the walbro 255 high pressure intank, you won't be disappointed.

 

It will still be a little noiser than a regular pressure pump. Whatever you get, get it from them though. I got mine there and they are great!!

Yeah just make sure it's the right one for your application.

 

got mine from him too. great price. works great and an easy install. Its not really that noticeably louder.
Note that you will not be able to get you fuel pressure lower than 40 psi with a B&M fuel pressure regulator if you happen to have one.

 

you can get the pressures down to 25 psi with the Walbro if you drill a small hole like ENDYN sez.

Now if I were to run low boost (below 7-8 psi) the walbro is plenty. But if you go high boost and have a rising rate FPM, get a good inline. Be it Bosch, Airtex, MSD, Aeromotive, whatever. The Walbros at 80 psi lose enough flow to cause problems.

 

That's the regular 255lph Walbro you're talking about, thr Hi-press. flows past 90psi, which is where you should try to limit your FP anyways regardless of what pump you use.
