Default drained the wrong oil on '96 accord ex

Hey guys,

This is my first post, so please bear with me. I just bought the car, and I was doing a simple oil change. I drained what I thought was the oil, and only about 1/2 quart came out. I later found out that I drained the wrong oil! I am trying to figure out what I _did_ drain. It looks like 10w30 oil, slightly dirtier. I thought it was coming from the manual transmission, however, it isn't the MT fill or drain plugs (as shown in my chilton). I used a 14 mm socket to unscrew the plug, if that helps.

Is it possible that the transmission has a 3rd drain valve, or is this something completely different? Can anybody help?

Thanks!

I have no clue what you drained. The Oil Drain plug is on the oil pan, there is no way to miss it. *Should* be a 17mm bolt. But if it was previously stripped it could be a 14mm. The Transmission drain plug has an opening for a 3/8's rachet to take it off. (no socket, if you get what i mean) Without a picture I could not help you. But you could check your oil dipstick to see if oil is on there. There is really no way you could mess this up.

it could be possible that you were severly low on oil if she burns it off pretty quickly

i think it was your oil but you didnt have much in because 10W 30 is for the accord... just put on a new filter and top up the oil and see...

If you can't provide a pic, then just describe as best as you can where this 14mm bolt is located at. Remember to include reference points, like "the bolt is directly inline with the radiator drain plug and to the left of the oil pan".

Can you point out what bolt you took off? Maybe one of the transmission case bolts?? Then maybe you didn't drain ALL the oil since it's not really at the lowest point?
